The Cabin in the Woods follows five college friends--Dana, Jules, Holden, Marty and Curt, as they set off on a weekend getaway to an isolated cabin set in the woods. As they explore their new surroundings, they soon realize that they're not the only ones and that their getaway has taken a sinister turn.
The group soon realizes that they are pawns in an even bigger game, in which they are subjected numerous horrors that are both human-made and supernatural. As the night progresses the five friends must survive the night or risk death.
The group initially splits into twogroups: Dana and Marty stay in the cabin , while Jules, Holden, and Curt examine the mysterious activities going on outside. The remaining two then venture out to find their friends, and in their search, Dana discovers that the creatures are actually human beings--scientists from a government-run organization who were transformed into monsters and taken to the cabin for a secret experiment.
The two manage to locate and rescue their friends, and the group manages to escape the cabin and make it back to their vehicle. Despite their best efforts the group is not able to overcome the creatures that have changed, and they are forced to take refuge in a mine shaft that is abandoned.
Inside inside the mining facility, they come across the control room. They find out the real purpose behind the secret experiment: to create a new type of monster that could be used fight in a conflict. After a brief battle, they are able to stop the project and escape from the mine alive.
In the final analysis, all five of college buddies make it through the experience, even though they're all shocked by their experiences. Despite the horrors they faced however, they're determined to put the experience behind them and return to normal life.
